running away from home ain’t cheap.

shot on iPhone 14 Pro Max.

“one Saturday morning in April, I woke up and wanted to make something. exactly 3 months after filming “lights,” i took my iPhone and tripod to the park. not knowing what i was there to film. but subconsciously putting the pieces together. David Griffith, a good friend of mine, found me there and captured some much appreciated behind the scenes pictures.”

“the first sport i was introduced to was baseball. i was decent. but i was mainly out there because i was fast and lanky. I'm sure i was clumsy too with growth spurts and sometimes legs being longer than the opposite. i left the sport after pitches started exceeding 70mph. i don’t regret that decision. but i know i definitely could have been better at it.

as i was filming aimlessly with my bought and paid for professional camera app for iPhone, i remembered “take me out to the ball game.” i specifically remember Bill Murray’s rendition, singing it with all the charisma a comic could possibly have. I've always had love for the sport and around this time, it was returning, probably because warmer weather was here. but during this time, i was desperately trying to navigate decisions on where to live and how to operate as housing and rent costs were skyrocketing thanks to whatever the current administration deemed the culprit. I'm still trying but i took those thoughts and implemented them into this short. instinctively running away from home, looking for something different. with my efforts being stopped in their tracks thanks to the fence. or in actuality, the cost of living being raised.”

“of-course, i think i was also heavily influenced by the real life story of Jackie Robinson, the impact that we as a people have on baseball as a whole. Along with the movie “42.” Add those together with the love i have for a sport that i started playing in the little leagues, and i think we have an answer to the question of “why a baseball field?” for “hardball.””
